Resign Ross

When Rangers blogger David Leggat stated in his blog on Monday that RSA (Rangers Supporters Assembly) representative Ross Blyth had defied the Rangers supporters’ boycott of the Dundee United match, there was much shock and anger in the online Rangers community.

Defying the boycott after being the RSA Spokesman who himself requested that Rangers consider a boycott

Ross Blyth, spokesperson Rangers Supporters Assembly, told STV he hopes the Rangers chief executive will talk to fans over the move.

He said: “We’d like to speak to Charles Green over this. If he understands the fans’ feelings, which I’m sure he does we would like to think he would support us.

“We would hope Charles Green would consult us before a final decision is made.

“The dislike between Rangers and Dundee United fans has grown more than with any other club.”

He added: “The ill feel between the two club dates back to 2009 after postponed match at Tannadice. After initially telling Rangers fans tickets would be valid for the rescheduled fixture, they then recharged us.

“Then we’ve got what happened in the summer and the general attitude of chairman Stephen Thompson. He wanted Rangers to suffer.

“He wanted us to be hit financially yet wanted to benefit from Rangers via the television revenue.”

Asked whether an absence of away fans may have an effect on the Rangers team, Mr Blyth said: “I can see the reason behind supporting the team and knocking United out of the cup and making them suffer that way but you’ve got to understand the strong feelings and anger Rangers fans have towards Dundee United.””

When the claim was made, one would expect that if Mr Blyth had NOT attended the match, then the RSA would have drafted up a quick statement and released on their Facebook, and across all Rangers websites. Instead there has been silence.

The longer the silence is, the worse it gets.

Now, aswell as leaving his own credibility in tatters, the prolonged silence is damaging the Assembly.

There may be a small amount of bears who are waiting on a statement of denial or some kind of damage limitation exercise

Deep down I’d hope that such a statement would be forthcoming, but I won’t hold my breath.

To add insult to injury, his alleged attendance at Tannadice was shortly after him allowing himself to be interviewed by Rangers hater Graham Spiers.

For many bears, that action alone is unacceptable, and leaves his position as untenable.

No Rangers fan should be talking to Spiers, and no representative of Rangers in any organisation of influence should be so naïve as not to understand the motivations or agenda of Spiers and those like him.

Blyth's decision making has been wrong on so many levels and not worthy of a Rangers fans rep.

If he did not attend the match, his failure to respond decisively in detail, backed with a lawyer’s letter for Leggat to remove the blog in question, shows a level of apathy that also is not the kind of quality that any Rangers rep should have.

Blyth really has no reason to feel aggrieved at anyone, even if a hypocrite in attendance at Tannadice under cover of a press pass has grassed on him to Leggat or one of his sources.

His own actions, or lack of them have put him in this situation.

The damage to the RSA may also be beyond repair, and they will need to radically overhaul their organisation if they have any remote chance of a) surviving, and b) gaining confidence of the wider Rangers support that they can be relevant and worthy of representing the Rangers support.

Bill.
