WP Archives: 30 May 2012 "Football & Tax"

While the SFA scrabble around their own rule book to try and hammer Rangers for not paying PAYE, iit is perhaps a good time to look at other clubs who have been in the same position.
The interesting position in Spain for example, where not only do the larger clubs have ridiculous debt, and subsidised stadium management, is that they have a huge problem in getting clubs to pay tax.

When the Spanish Government considered waiving the tax debt completely, the reaction from other countries was of anger, but the Spanish have clearly decided to back their football clubs, and wish to see them prosper.

The Spanish FA clearly do not care, and neither do UEFA or FIFA.

If either UEFA or FIFA back the SFA on the tax issue, then they will need to apply that across the planet.

Given CONCACAF's tax problems (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/mobile/football/18232533), and an apparent lack of action from FIFA, I'm of a belief that they would be better served keeping their noses out, unless it's to threaten Stewart Regan to apply some common sense to the affairs of Rangers.

To have FIFA moralising on corporate governance is laughable.

Are the SFA any better? Well if they can fail to apply their own rules properly then who can say?
I'd suggest that while Celtic's Peter Lawwell has influence within the SFA Boardroom and while Stewart Regan presides over calamity after calamity, that the strategy to deal with Rangers is not in line with any other nation in the world, and that we as a Rangers support need to unite and fight to have them removed.
